Photography of construction sites
Client: Various
Project: We produce quality photography for construction clients
There is nothing quite like a construction site. Getting photographs of a project takes both good timing and flexibility (and safety) in the midst of an ever-changing environment.
These are examples of some very unique and challenging photos. The top two photos were shot 250' below the surface in a tunnel drilled out of solid bedrock. The environment was devoid of much light and it required a steady hand and a lot of nerve to get the shot. The first photo shows the inside of a massive concrete form where the walls of the tunnel were poured. The second photo shows the diesel transport train ready to take workers into the tunnel. The third photo is topside, pouring concrete into the shafts drilled into the bedrock.
Remaining photos, top to bottom:
• A line of mixer trucks wait to pour on a continuous pour at the Magnetation Steel Pellet Recycling facility in northern Indiana.
• The expansion of I-69 in southern Indiana. The bridge deck was being poured with concrete that was pumped from below on a provisional road. To get this camera angle, we had to scale a partially constructed twin bridge running parallel to the construction area.
• This Terex mixer truck photo was shot in a stone quarry in Fort Wayne, Indiana. We drove the truck and our crew to the bottom of the quarry. The mixer truck was new and had to be cleaned once it was in position.
• The next two photos show the full depth reclamation process by the Tipton County Highway Department. Prior to adding new pavement, the old pavement was pulverized and mixed with the soil along with a slurry mix to stabilize the sub-base for the road. The Bomag Flexmix Recyler/Stabilizer tills the components into the soil.
• The Center Hill Dam was repaired to firm up an aging foundation. The old earthen foundation was leaking. The core of the dam was drilled out and reinforced with secant piles that were filled with concrete via a tremie line.
• The I-265 connection project in Louisville, Kentucky included two tunnels that were blasted through bedrock. The pneumatic sprayer is coating the tunnel walls and ceiling with a shotcrete to secure it. We were out ahead of the sprayer, getting pelted under our hard hats and safety equipment as small rocks rained down from overhead.
• The next two photos were shot as the new Market Tower was being built in downtown Indianapolis. The unique angles were the result of getting where the work is taking place.
• Legends Plaza at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was built for the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500. The checkerboard hardscape leads to the main entrance on the southwestern side of the track.
• Commonwealth Stadium on the campus of the University of Kentucky was refurbished in 2015-2016.
• The bottom two photos show a portion of the upgrade to the electrical grid running across northern Indiana. This included a new NIPSCO sub-station at Monon, Indiana and over 100 miles of new high tension electrical lines.
