Did you notice the change when you got up today? It is the first day of
spring. The vernal equinox happened at 5:01 a.m. EDT. Daylight and darkness are
equal today, but daylight will be gaining now until the middle of June. The
seasons are changing from winter to spring. Soon the trees will be budding and
flowers will be blooming. Days will grow warmer. The earth will wake up once
again and it feels good! Which is why it is time for your marketing to engage
with people.
When the days grow warmer and longer, people are happier. Some of that
has to do with the chemical reaction to sunshine. When the temperature rises
and we shed jackets and long sleeves, more of our skin is exposed to the light.
Skin exposed to sunlight produces vitamin D. Vitamin D helps your body absorb
calcium, which aids in bone strength. Without it, your muscles and bones tend
to ache. Sunlight also causes our body to release endorphins, which are happy
hormones. In other words, you feel better, have more energy and are happier in
the sunlight. Then there is the lengthening of days. More activities can happen
outside when the days are longer. All this together will lead people to have a
better outlook on life beginning today. This is where your marketing
needs to make a change to reflect this new, positive attitude.
There is a psychology to marketing. Happy people are more open to making
a purchase than sad, depressed people. How can you take advantage of this? Now
is the time to push the positive vibes regarding your brand and give people a
reason to buy your products and services. How does your brand make life better
for people? How does it make them feel good about themselves? Promote these
aspects of your brand in your marketing.
It is also time to do something new with your marketing. Give your
campaigns a fresh look. It is a time of renewal. Go with that in your marketing
too. Even if your marketing has been very upbeat, now is the time to do
something new. Try a new catchphrase, a fresh image, a change in the colors you
use, use humor, etc. People can tire of seeing the same thing again and again –
which leads them to ignore your brand. Give them something new to catch their
attention.
Today is the first day of spring. Take advantage of the change of
seasons with your marketing.
